China Village at the National Multicultural Festival 2019
The National Multicultural Festival (NMF) is an annual community event held in Canberra during February each year. The event functions as a platform for cultural exchange between different ethnic communities in the area. The festival features a multi-cultural collection of mouth-watering cuisines as well as a diverse display of exciting art performances from different ethnic groups. An inaugural China Village showcasing Chinese performing arts groups from both China and local Chinese communities was featured at the NMF back in 2017, and the 2019 National Multicultural Festival followed suit in hosting the third China Village project held in Australia. The village was organised by Ausfeng Events in association with the Federation of ACT Chinese Associations in Canberra.
A collection of Chinese cultural handcrafts, calligraphy, painting, tea ceremonies and gastronomic delights was on display across more than thirty sampling booths. An exciting lineup of exhilarating performances including acrobatics, singing and lion dancing also showcased at this year’s China Village, and even included international performing arts groups such as the Guizhou Opera & Dance Drama Theater, China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, and the Australian local Chinese Association.
